Ron Wilkinson 1936 – 2023
It is with profound sadness that STAND announces the death of Ron Wilkinson, Chairman of STAND. He passed away peacefully in Castle Hill Hospital on Tuesday 4th April 2023.
Ruth Creasey, Secretary of STAND said,
“For STAND, we have lost a precious friend and cherished colleague. He showed warmth, commitment and enthusiasm to those he met and worked alongside and he had a big heart for the community.
His knowledge, experience and memories of Hull’s fishing industry came from 25 years as a fisherman – from Galley Boy to Skipper; also as a teacher at the Hull Nautical School and as a trainer of Saudi Nationals for 15 years in the Gulf, working for Saudi Aramco Oil Co.
Sadly, Ron will not see the fruits of his hard fought 20 year battle, as a Trustee of STAND, to install the Memorial to the Lost Trawlermen of Hull on St Andrew’s Retail Park. The building works are due to commence on 26th April, the day before Ron’s funeral. However, his legacy and memory will live on.”
